2008 Newton County Disaster Relief Program

On May 10th, 2008, Newton County was devastated by an F-4 tornado that tore through a 30 mile path from the Oklahoma state line to Barry County. Over 500 homes were affected by the storm ranging from minor damage to total destruction. As of August 2010, a large number of those homes still need various levels of repairs due to the original storm damage. In 2009, we applied for and received assistance in the amount of $1,290,000 to address remaining needs of the project area. Our project was designed to assist families who were in need of buying a different home, rehabilitating their existing home, or reconstructing their destroyed home on the same site. Applications for assistance are no longer available.
